The violin has a mature, beautiful tone. There are some old repaired hairline cracks on the top deck. The violin has a beautifully flamed tiger maple two piece back, and medium grained spruce top. The label inside violin reads: Johann Hoffmann, cognomen, gamine. 1901, 1364 workmanship is excellent throughout.
In the button area purling has been repaired. They are stable. This is a quality instrument, cut above some of the modern advanced intermediate level violins offered by Eastman, killing, Chen, CAI etc.
Take a good look at the pictures for more details. Besides these cosmetic blemishes, the violin is in great condition for its age. It is in ready to play condition.
The sound is powerful and projects very well in large auditoriums. This is a beautiful vintage 4 violin.
