The area surrounding tailpiece button hole has been replaced with newer wood and is stable. It looks like the canvas cover can be removed for cleaning if next owner wishes. This instrument can be strung as is, the pegs hold and peg box crack is stable, but new owner will probably want to have a small repair performed, please discuss with your local Luther. The case has k zippers, which makes it a European.

A newer sound post is in place and all cracks the body have been repaired they are stable. This is a very old master violin. The case shows a lot of patina.

I am selling the violin with no reserve and have started offer a little bit off floor to make it visible interested buyers. Instruments by the master are always described as sweet and warm, with many ringing overtones on full register. There are no makers marks on the case that I can find, but it has look of an English.

Inside the case is also a tuning fork and an early resonant shoulder rest dating to mid-fifties. There are a few factory-made reproductions of Johann Adam Martins violins from the late 1800s out there, but they obvious and instruments very poor quality.

Another interesting repair is a sliver of wood on the neck under fingerboard. The label is made from what seems to be fairly thick stock of laid linen fiber, same as seen in many other pre-1800 instruments this area, a much thicker than Italians used. This violin is not doing much in my hands, it should be the hands of someone who plays daily.

The neck graft is stable, although quite visible and could use some cosmetic work at with peg box. The case can hold four bows, but no bows are included. Notably, the original scroll is grafted onto a newer neck, this modification was likely done early to mid 1800 when violin as an instrument changed from baroque modern with longer neck at slightly higher angle.

The shoulder strap is missing. I have not bothered to spend the money obtain authenticity papers on this violin, do feel it is necessary as obviously no reproduction. The handwritten is also a complete match with documented label in an instrument from same year.

There are numerous repairs of differing age to many parts the violin, and everything is stable. I am not certain what strings to recommend, you should try a few different ones find fits this instrument. K was a European zipper manufacturer that sold very exclusively to Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Hermes, these zippers are not usually found elsewhere.

No high quality copies of Johann Adam Martin have ever been made, and I am knowledgeable on the subject copy violins. The label reads: Adam Mich in neukirchen, vomit-land bey Adolf. I am selling this outfit exactly as it came into my hands a while back.

Other experts who have handled this violin no doubt about its authenticity. There are some marks on it where someone has apparently tried to scratch with a sharp instrument. Please study all the pictures. The label inside is thought to be original, which highly unusual in itself.

Overall a gorgeous and very, very old violin, true to the of Johann Adam Martin is instruments: lower arching, smallish scroll, high quality brownish oil varnish. A plus violins sold very similar instrument recently for as you can see in the pictures, there are many repairs to peg box and crack on one side between peg holes.
