Cons of buying a 1800s D'Salzar 4-4 violin:

2. Potential for extensive repair: The violin may require significant restoration to bring it back to its original condition, which can be costly.

3. Unpredictability: It's difficult to know exactly what condition the violin is in without a thorough inspection, which can lead to unexpected expenses.

Conclusion:

The 1800s D'Salzar 4-4 violin is an attractive option for those looking for a historic and potentially valuable instrument. However, its high cost and potential for extensive repair make it a significant investment. It may not be suitable for regular use due to its age and fragility, and it may lack modern features. Ultimately, whether or not to purchase this violin depends on your budget, playing needs, and appreciation for historical instruments. It may be worth reaching out to a violin expert for advice before making a decision.

Details:

The violin was fully restored recently. The violin has been worked many times over its long and turbulent life. This is a great sounding instrument, ready to play.

Structurally, it is perfectly sound and good to go for another 100 years. Bass bar replaced and new corner blocks installed. It was made in mire court, france sometime early to mid 1800S.

Violin was re varnished, but making an effort to preserve the antique patina. It is branded twice inside, Dsalzar. It looks even older than the violin. This is a beautifully restored antique french 4 violin.

At some point in the past upper deck may have been replaced. Aesthetically, the match is not perfect, but sound incredible.
