With 5 strings, the violina 5 string violin spans the range of both a violin and viola, allowing cross trained violinists violists to play and carry a single instrument. It's been in the case the rest of the time.

In case you've never had a violin shipped to you before, the little peg inside that goes between the front and the back of the body of the instrument may get jostled out of its proper place during shipping and may need to be re set. Available in 3 different sizes to suit violinists or violists.

Again, i'm an amateur so I don't know. This happened to me when I ordered mine from musician's friend. Also included with the violin are a damp it, a nice case, the bow it came with, and the violin itself. However, it turns out a 4 string's body is a tad shorter that a 5 string.

There are no defects in this instrument, that I am aware of, besides a few tiny little scuffs see photos. So, there are no funky smells at all.

I originally got this to learn to play violin, which is why it has the learner's tape on the neck and easily removable, but in case you or the person you are buying for is learning too, this could be an added benefit. There was 12 photo limit on the posting so I picked a few to show.
